It’s well known by now that nautical is one of the must-have trends to rock this spring/summer. Every designer is implementing the sea-side influence into their collections and the high street stores are following suit. In today’s post I take a look at what online store ASOS have to offer on the trend and I help create a look that is subtly on-trend, rather than verging on sea-side recruit. I’ve created two looks: Nautical by Day for those long sunny afternoons by the sea; and Nautical by Night for those warm summer evenings abroad.
Trilby Hat, Sunglasses, Neck tie, Top, Bracelet, Belt, Shorts, Shoes, Bag
Top Tips:
- Push up the sleeves to the elbow to maintain the casual look and bring attention to the bracelet
- Go bright and colourful during the day to stand out in the sunlight
- When not wearing the sunglasses, hang them over the short pocket rather than by the neck, to avoid looking too busy with the neck tie
Tee, Belt, Trousers, Shoes, Bracelet, Bag
Top Tips:
- Roll up the sleeves of the tee a couple of turns for a more retro feel
- Roll up jeans just one or two turns and wear shoes sockless to complete the deck shoe look
- On cooler evenings pair up with a cream coloured cardie
- Keep a darker, monotone look in the evening with splashes of colour for a smarter feel

Great, I just had a nautical shopping spree on ASOS the other day.
I think you have incorporated too many blues into the look however:
Belt+scarf+glasses are one blue
Shoes are a second blue
Bracelet is a third blue.
Bag is a fourth blue.
I think a plain brown manbag, or a white tote bag would have bought this look together, paired with a white watch, and blue leather boat shoes, or brown shoes if opting for the brown bag.
Replacing the bracelet would be perfect for a nautical look, evident in the Tommy Hilfiger Spring Summer 2010 collection.
